Fortress Batteries Power a Puerto Rican Aqueduct

Por Los Nuestros is a non-profit organization with a focus on renewable energy solutions, community advocacy, and public health. They have developed a project in which Por Los Nuestros provides water to communities that are not connected to Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA).

By November 2021, there were more than 70,000 Puerto Rican families not connected to PRASA and lacking drinking water in their homes. Funded by Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization, Por Los Nuestros energized 25 community aqueducts throughout the island, impacting thousands of families.

One of the communities that Por Los Nuestros has helped is the Anones barrio of Naranjito. Por Los Nuestros built Anones a community aqueduct powered by a robust solar system installed by Manage Energy Solution (MES). As a result, the community had access to drinking water when there was no electricity service.

The PV ground-mounted photovoltaic system consists of 23.7 kWdC in solar panels and has a 21.6 kwAC three-phase Outback inverter system. This system uses 4 Fortress Power eVault batteries totaling 74 kWh of energy storage.

Manage Energy Solution regularly works with Fortress Power, and they’re impressed with both the Fortress Power batteries and the local technical support available on the island. They chose to use 4 eVault batteries for this project because they required a robust battery with a 10-year warranty that has been proven in the Puerto Rico market.

“The importance of Por Los Nuestros and the community aqueduct project is that communities have access to potable water at all times, and we are proud to be a part of this,” said Omar Collazo, CEO and founder of Manage Energy Solution.
