Pacific Power Wattsmart Battery Program

Power your home, save money and support Oregon’s clean energy future.

Homeowners and businesses can take advantage of several incentives to almost fully cover the cost adding a battery system to your solar array. Receive up to $9,450 in upfront incentives, in addition to the Federal ITC and annual credits.

Pacific Power’s Wattsmart program offer financial incentives to homeowners and businesses who install battery storage systems in their territory. Homeowners can receive up to $3,000 per inverter. Businesses can receive up to $18,000 – or more with special pre-approval. In addition to the upfront incentive, participants receive an annual bill credit of $15/kW, starting in year two. That’s a $180 credit for the Envy 12kW. Energy Trust of Oregon provides an upfront incentive of $450/kW up to $5,400 plus $1,050 if paired with solar. These incentives can be combined with Wattsmart.

Wattsmart aims to promote renewable energy adoption and enhance grid reliability by using clean, renewable energy stored in battery systems instead of traditional power plants. Pacific Power expects to use participants’ battery storage system for five minutes instead of calling on expensive, less efficient gas peaker plants. Meanwhile, your battery storage system may serve as back-up electricity to your home or business, in case you ever need it. By participating, you will earn an upfront enrollment incentive and ongoing bill credits while helping to keep electricity prices in the region among the nation’s lowest.

How to Participate

Find an Installer

Select a Fortress Power approved installer to install an eligible system. Pacific Power allows you to work with a qualified installer of your choice to evaluate your options.

Contact Fortress Power for installer recommendations.

Install Your System

Certain Fortress Power systems are on the Eligible Equipment List and must be paired with the Guardian Gateway to remit information back to Pacific Power.

Enroll in the Program

After the installation is complete, submit the application to Pacific Power for participation. Pacific Power will then verify ability to communicate and dispatch the battery.

Customers who also enroll via the Fortress Power website will get their checks faster as Fortress Power can verify the communication earlier in the Pacific Power process.

Get Paid!

Your Energy Trust cash incentive will be paid directly to your contractor, who will deduct the incentive amount from your invoice, reducing the upfront cost of your solar installation. You’ll receive a check for the upfront Pacific Power incentive. In addition, monthly bill credits will be applied to your bill starting in year two. Combine all that with the corresponding Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) to maximize your savings!

Program Benefits

Earn Upfront Incentives

Upfront incentives reduce the cost to you before installation. Wattsmart provides $600/kW for a four-year commitment. Homeowners can receive up to $3,000 per inverter. Businesses are caped at 30 kW systems but can install larger systems with pre-approval from Pacific Power.

In addition, homeowner can receive $450/ kW from Energy Trust of Oregon. Capture the maximum residential incentive of $5,400 with an Envy 12kW inverter. Homeowners adding solar can receive an additional $1,050. The Energy Trust of Oregon is paid directly to your contractor, who will deduct the incentive amount from your invoice, reducing the upfront cost of your solar installation.

Higher incentives are also available for income-qualified households under Energy Trust’s Solar Within Reach program.

Earn Performance Incentives

Customers are also eligible for an ongoing annual bill credit of $15 per kW starting in year two of the program. The annual credit will be divided and applied equally to your monthly bill.

Take Advantage of the Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC)

You may also qualify for a Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC). Consult with a tax advisor on eligibility requirements.

Contribute to a Cleaner Future

Unlike generators that run on fossil fuels, batteries are a cleaner, quieter option for powering your home during an outage.

How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed

System Monitoring

The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so Pacific Power can monitor your system. The Guardian Gateway is required to program communications. You can see the same information using our mobile app.

Battery Dispatch

Pacific Power plans to use battery systems to provide grid services, helping to maintain grid stability by responding to rapid and unexpected electricity fluctuations. These events are often five minutes long. Find out more at Wattsmart Grid Benefits.

Most battery systems are charged from excess solar energy midday and discharged used later in the evening or mornings.

Pacific Power will not discharge customer batteries below 20%.

Incentives

Participating customers receive upfront incentive totaling up to $9,450 shortly after installation to reduce the battery’s cost. Customers also earn an ongoing annual bill credit starting in year two of the program.
