eSpire Nano: Commercial Battery Storage | Standard or Pro Package

One flexible 208–480V energy storage platform for small and mid-sized commercial & industrial sites — start with straightforward Standard monitoring, or step up to Pro EMS for advanced optimization, VPP readiness, and whole-site control.

One System. Two Ways to Run It.

Every eSpire Nano ships ready to work — the only decision is how much intelligence your site needs. The Standard Package is included at zero additional cost and covers the essentials: cloud monitoring, fleet visibility, and the core energy strategies most C&I sites rely on. The Pro EMS Package is the upgrade path — built around the Keystone Controller to unlock predictive, data-driven optimization and whole-site control for teams that want to go further. Both run on the same hardware, so you can start with Standard and step up to Pro whenever your site is ready.

Choose the Level of Intelligence Your Site Needs

Both packages run on the same Nano hardware. The difference is how each one senses, schedules, and reports on your energy — and how far it can go toward maximizing ROI.

Keystone EMS — The Brain Behind Every Nano Pro System

Keystone EMS is the microgrid controller and energy management system that powers the Nano Pro package. It’s what turns a battery into a fully controllable energy platform — coordinating solar, storage, generators, EV chargers, and utility service from a single dashboard, and scaling from a single 40 kWh Nano up to 6 MWh across an entire portfolio of sites.

  • Full-site energy management

Unified control across your entire energy ecosystem, not just the battery

  • Seamless multi-asset integration

Coordinates batteries, PV, generators, and EV charging as one system

  • Intelligent ROI optimization

AI-driven strategies that reduce costs and increase returns automatically

  • Future-ready for VPP & grid services

Unlock new revenue streams and support grid reliability as programs come online

  • Fast deployment, expert support

Streamlined commissioning backed by Fortress Power's technical team

One System, Multiple Ways to Deliver Value

Energy storage and solar working together create a smarter, more resilient facility — and the same Nano hardware can be configured to prioritize different outcomes depending on what matters most at your site.

Peak Shaving / Demand Mitigation

Automatically discharges the battery when building load spikes — pumps, equipment startups, HVAC cycling — so utility draw stays below your demand threshold. As solar ramps up during the day, utility use drops further and excess production recharges the battery.

Energy Services / VPP

PV covers site load directly, with excess power sold back to the grid. When the utility calls a demand response (DR) event, the battery discharges and sells into the grid for the duration of the event, then recharges from utility power once it ends — turning your site into a revenue-generating grid asset.

Resiliency / Power Outage

When a utility outage hits, the battery immediately covers load spikes while solar production ramps up to cover the facility and recharge storage. Once the battery is full, PV continues powering the site to preserve stored energy — and when utility power is restored, excess solar is sold back to the grid as the system returns to normal operation.

How Nano Standard Stacks Up Against the Competition

Even before you add Pro, Nano Standard is built to outperform other three-phase hybrid systems on the market — starting with commissioning speed and voltage flexibility.

Flexible Configurations for PV, Generators & Backup Power

The Nano’s Smart Port makes it easy to integrate solar, generators, and backup loads in the layout that fits your site — some configurations work on Standard, others unlock only with Pro.

Smart Port Integration for AC-Coupled PV

Straightforward AC-coupled PV integration without the need for Pro

Smart Port Integration for AC-Coupled PV

What Standard Supports:

  • AC-coupled PV connects through the Nano Smart Port.
  • Backup operation keeps PV available to support backed-up loads.
  • Frequency shifting controls PV output while operating in backup.
  • Battery charging allows AC-coupled PV to recharge the Nano battery bank.
  • Built-in monitoring tracks load and grid import/export through the inverter.

Pro is not required for this configuration.

Existing AC-Coupled PV Integration

Both packages support the retrofit layout — Pro adds AC PV production visibility

Existing AC-Coupled PV Integration

What Standard or Pro Supports:

  • Load Monitoring — included on both Nano Pro and Nano Standard.
  • Grid Import/Export Monitoring — included on both Nano Pro and Nano Standard.
  • AC PV Production Monitoring — included on Nano Pro only; not available on Nano Standard.

In this layout, AC PV is not available during backup.

Communications-Based PV Control

Actively coordinates AC-coupled PV during backup while keeping the Smart Port available

What Pro Unlocks:

  • PV During Backup — AC-coupled PV remains available when the site is islanded.
  • Digital PV Control — Nano communicates commands to PV instead of relying on frequency shifting.
  • Open Smart Port — leaves room for direct generator integration or load shedding.
  • Generator Flexibility — the open Smart Port can support a generator that charges the batteries and powers backed-up loads.
  • Unified Monitoring — brings generator, PV, and system operation into the Nano platform.

Advanced PV control + generator flexibility

Expanded Generator + PV Integration

External ATS increases available generator input while keeping Smart Port open for another asset

Expanded Generator + PV Integration

What This Configuration Adds:

  • More generator input — external ATS enables up to 2x more generator input.
  • Battery + load support — generator power supports battery charging and backed-up loads.
  • Smart Port stays open — keeps the Smart Port available for another asset.
  • Flexible asset mix — use the Smart Port for AC-coupled PV or a Smart Load.
  • One monitoring platform — monitor generator, PV, loads, and battery performance together.

Higher generator input + an open Smart Port for flexibility

Common Questions About eSpire Nano Pro & Standard

Standard covers the core strategies most C&I sites need — cloud monitoring, fleet visibility, peak shaving, and time-of-use optimization — at no additional cost. Pro adds the Keystone EMS Controller and eGauge metering on top, unlocking predictive optimization, multi-meter/multi-asset visibility, utility and incentive program reporting, and VPP readiness.

Yes. Pro is designed as an upgrade path on the same Nano hardware — you're not locked into your original choice, and you can add the Keystone Controller when your site's needs grow.

No. AC-coupled PV connects through the Nano's Smart Port on Standard, with no Pro requirement — Standard supports backup operation, PV-to-battery charging, and built-in load/grid monitoring out of the box. Pro adds digital PV control and keeps PV available during backup without relying on frequency shifting.

It's the microgrid controller and energy management platform behind the Pro package — it coordinates batteries, solar, generators, and EV chargers from a single dashboard, and scales from a single 40 kWh Nano up to 6 MWh across a full site or portfolio.

Nano is built for residential-speed commissioning in under 10 minutes, on both Standard and Pro, significantly faster than typical three-phase hybrid commercial systems.

208V, 220V, 240V, and 480V three-phase configurations, with both AC and DC coupling and 30 kW or 60 kW inverter options paired with 40 kWh or 60 kWh battery cabinets (indoor or outdoor).

Yes, with the Pro EMS package — Pro adds utility compliance reporting and VPP integration, so sites can participate in demand response events and other grid programs. Standard does not include this reporting layer.

Standard supports generator integration limited to inverter AC output through the Smart Port. Adding Pro with an external Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) increases available generator input by up to 2x while keeping the Smart Port open for another asset like AC-coupled PV.
