Arizona Public Service Storage Rewards Pilot Program
Support a reliable, affordable and clean energy future… and get paid to do it.
What Is the APS Storage Rewards Program?
Arizona Public Service customers can get paid for using their battery during periods of peak electricity demand—like hot summer days. Participate through your Fortress Power battery to receive an annual $110/kW capacity payment. For example, customers with eForce 28.8 batteries could earn an average of $800 for the summer season, based on their expected performance. The APS Storage Rewards pilot is a resource to help support a reliable, affordable and clean energy future. During periods of high demand an event may be called, and your battery manufacturer will signal your battery system to discharge stored energy back to the power grid.

End of Season Bill Credit
Your payment will be based on the average power contribution, in kilowatts (kW), of your battery system throughout all event hours.
$110 / kW
How to Participate
- Work with a Fortress Power certified installer to get an estimate for an eligible system.
- Your system is installed with a qualifying Fortress Power battery, inverter, and Guardian device.
- After the installation is complete, enroll in the APS Storage Rewards Pilot program using the Fortress Power EnergyBroker program application.
- APS confirms your battery is operating correctly.
- Once your battery’s performance data has been validated, compensation payments for performance will be processed as a bill credit within one to two APS billing cycles after the end of the season. If your bill credit is more than your APS bill, the remaining balance will roll over to next month.
How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed
System Monitoring
The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so APS can monitor your system. The Guardian Gateway or Dongle is required to program communications. You can see the same information using the Fortress Power Owner App.
Battery Dispatch
The number of events will vary depending on APS’s grid needs, but no more than 60 events will be called each season, May 1 to October 31. Events may take place on weekdays, weekends and holidays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Events will range from one hour to four hours.

Common Questions About the APS Storage Rewards Pilot
The APS Storage Rewards Pilot is an Arizona Public Service (APS) program that pays residential customers to share stored energy from their home battery during periods of high grid demand. When APS calls an event, Fortress Power automatically signals your battery to discharge stored energy back to the grid — no action required from you. In return, you earn a seasonal bill credit based on your battery's average kW contribution across all events during the season.
You earn $110 per kilowatt (kW), calculated as the average kW your battery contributes across all events during the season. For example, a customer with an average contribution of 2 kW earns $220 for the season. Compensation is paid as a bill credit within one to two APS billing cycles after the season ends on October 31. For customers with a bill credit larger than their APS bill, the remaining balance rolls over to the following month.
The following Fortress Power products are approved for the APS Storage Rewards Pilot: eSpire Mini, eSpire 233, and eSpire 280 (which include the battery and inverter), as well as the eForce Battery, LFP-10 Max, eVault MAX 18.5kWh, and eFlex 5.4 — all of which must be paired with a Fortress Power Envy inverter. Your system must have received Permission to Operate (PTO) from APS and must maintain a continuous internet connection to participate.
During an event, Fortress Power automatically signals your battery to discharge stored energy to the grid. You will be notified of the event date and time beforehand by email, text, or other communication. Events take place between May 1 and October 31, on weekdays, weekends, and holidays from 4pm to 10pm. No more than 60 events will be called per season, and each event lasts between one and four hours.
Yes. Fortress Power customers can opt out of any event using the Fortress Power app or by responding to the Fortress Power event notification email. You can opt out up to the start of an event and during an event. Opting out of an event does not unenroll you from the program, but will reduce your seasonal earnings since your compensation is based on average performance across all events.
