A Solution for a Brighter Energy Future

Turn your investment in solar and energy storage into a revenue generating asset by joining the EnergyBroker Virtual Power Plant (VPP). EnergyBroker dispatches your Fortress Power system when the grid needs it most. During these events, you’ll earn $1 for every kWh discharged by your battery system. Many participants earn thousands of dollars by participating. You can adjust your Backup Reserve and enable Fortress to sell the rest.

Most events occur in the evenings, and your Fortress battery system will recharge when the sun rises the next morning. Plus, events will not be called prior to of during a severe weather events like hurricanes or tropical storms.

The program is designed to preserve your resiliency against power outages, while improving the reliability of Puerto Rico’s grid for everyone.

How to Participate

Find an Installer

Find an approved Fortress Power installer to install your Fortress Power system.

Install Your System

All Fortress batteries must be paired with an Envy inverter and Guardian Gateway. The system must have a constant internet connection.

Enroll in the Program

After the installation is complete, enroll via the Fortress Power website. You can select the amount of energy Fortress can use per event. Decrease the amount if you are concerned about overnight power outages or increase it to collect more revenue.

Get Paid!

Once your system is operational and all eligibility requirements have been verified, LUMA and Fortress Power will monitor your performance. Fortress Power pays enrollees quarterly for all exports during the prior three-month season.

Prevent Power Outages

Recent reports indicates Puerto Rico will not have enough power supply to meet peak demand this year due to aging infrastructure. Puerto Ricans experienced 34 days with power outages over a 6-month period in 2024. LUMA is now predicting 93 days over the same period this year.

How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed

System Monitoring

The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so LUMA Energy and Fortress Power can monitor your system. The Guardian Gateway is required to program communications. You can see the same information using our mobile app.

Battery Dispatch & Event Parameters

When LUMA forecasts that upcoming power needs will exceed the available generation capacity, they ask companies like Fortress Power to provide power from customer batteries. Fortress schedules enrolled batteries to discharge power during the requested time periods.

Events may occur any weekday of the year, excluding holidays, though primarily during the months of April – November. Most events occur between 7pm and 11pm and last two hours. Customer can opt-out of any event. Fortress Power will not call any events prior to of during a severe weather events like hurricanes or tropical storms.

  • LUMA Energy customer
  • Be registered in LUMA’s Net Energy Metering Program
  • Have a reliable internet connection
