Arizona Public Service Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program
Leverage rebates and incentives to reduce your cost to acquire backup power.
COMING THIS SUMMER!

Arizona Public Service customers can get paid for using their battery during periods of peak electricity demand—like hot summer days. Participate through your Fortress battery to receive an annual $110/kW capacity payment. For example, customers with eForce 28.8 batteries earn an average of $800 for the summer season.
APS serves about 2.7 million people in 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties, and is the Southwest’s foremost producer of clean safe and reliable electricity. Using a balanced energy mix that is nearly 50 percent carbon-free, APS has one of the country’s most substantial renewable energy portfolios, and owns and operates the Palo Verde Generating Station, the country’s top power producer and largest producer of carbon-free energy. The company is also a proven leader in introducing technology and services that offer customers choice and control over their energy consumption. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW).
How to Participate
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be an Arizona Public Service (APS) customer
- Your Fortress Power system must have a Guardian Monitor, Envy Inverter and any Fortress Power battery
- Must have a reliable internet connection
Select an installer through APS’s list of Qualified Technology Installers.
All Fortress Power Residential systems are eligible for the program, and must be paired with the Guardian Monitor to remit information back to your power supplier.
After the installation is complete, enroll in the BYOD program via our simple EnergyBroker application.
Once your system is operational and all eligibility requirements have been verified, APS will issue a bill credit based on the average power discharged during the events.
Program Benefits
Performance incentives are paid at the end of each summer via a bill credit based on the average kilowatt (kW) used per event, averaged over the season.
You may also qualify for a Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC). Consult with a tax advisor on eligibility requirements.
Unlike generators that run on fossil fuels, batteries are a cleaner, quieter option for powering your home during an outage. APS calls on the batteries instead of the most expensive, dirty sources of power. Your contribution directly adds renewable energy to the grid when it’s needed most, making a positive impact on our environment and community.
How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed
System Monitoring
The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so Arizona Public Service can monitor your system. Use our Guardian Monitor & mobile app.
Battery Dispatch & Parameters
After your battery is installed, APS will dispatch energy from your battery to help reduce peak electricity demand.
– Up to 60 discharge events per year
– Can occur any day
– Between 4pm-7pm (coincides with APS Peak Time of Use rates on weekdays)
