Green Mountain Power BYOD Program
Leverage rebates and incentives to reduce your cost to acquire backup power.

Green Mountain Power‘s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program in Vermont offers customers the opportunity to receive rebates of up to $10,500 when they install qualifying home battery storage systems and agree to share stored energy during peak demand periods. Participants can select their preferred battery brands and installation providers, allowing for flexibility and personalization. By contributing stored energy during times of high demand, customers not only enhance their own energy resilience but also help reduce overall energy costs for the community.
In the BYOD program, you get seamless battery backup power to keep you connected, and you also share energy during peak energy use times. By sharing some stored energy, you help to reduce costs for all GMP customers during peaks.
How to Participate
Select a Fortress Power approved installer to install an eligible system. Green Mountain Power does not require input on who installs the system.
Certain Fortress Power systems are on the Eligible Equipment List, and must be paired with the Guardian Monitor to remit information back to your power supplier.
After the installation is complete, enroll in the Green Mountain Power BYOD program right on their website and choose your equipment incentive terms. Your installer will work with you on enrolling, or you can enroll using the Fortress Power EnergyBroker program application.
Once your system is operational and all eligibility requirements have been verified, Green Mountain Power will mail you a check for the upfront incentive depending on the option chosen. Combine that with the corresponding Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) to maximize your savings!
Program Benefits
Upfront incentives reduce the cost to you after installation. Customers can qualify for up to $10,5000 in exchange for allowing the battery to reduce their home’s demand from the electrical grid about five to eight times per month.
You may also qualify for a Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC). Consult with a tax advisor on eligibility requirements.
By sharing some stored energy, you help to reduce costs for all GMP customers during peaks.
Unlike generators that run on fossil fuels, batteries are a cleaner, quieter option for powering your home during an outage.
How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed
System Monitoring
The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so Green Mountain Power and your utility supplier can monitor your system. Use our Guardian Monitor & mobile app.
Battery Dispatch
After your system is installed and approved, you decide how much energy you’ll share during peak events. Peak Events occur when Vermont uses the most energy, about five to eight times per month and last three hours. If weather is forecasted for your area that is likely to cause outages, they’ll keep your battery for backup power.
Incentives
Participating customers receive an upfront incentive to reduce the battery’s cost. The incentive is based on the system installed and amount of energy shared.

The Beckett’s downsized after their children were out of the house and moved to the South End suburb of Burlington. With just the two of them, the Becketts didn’t need anything big, just enough to have backup storage in case of an emergency.
