Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Battery Program

Leverage rebates and incentives to reduce your cost to acquire backup power.

Rocky Mountain Power is committed to sustainable energy, including developing innovations for the energy grid of the future. With the new Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Battery Program, they are connecting with customers in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming who want to take the journey with us to a more sustainable energy grid.

This program uses renewable energy stored in customer-owned battery systems. When you participate, your battery will be made available to Rocky Mountain Power to help manage energy on the electric grid. At the same time, your battery storage system may serve as back-up electricity to your home or business, in case you ever need it. By participating, you will earn an upfront enrollment incentive and ongoing bill credits while helping to keep electricity prices in the region among the nation’s lowest.

How to Participate

Find an Installer

Select a Fortress Power approved installer to install an eligible system. RMP allows you to work with a qualified installer of your choice to evaluate your options.

Install Your System

Certain Fortress Power systems are on the Eligible Equipment List, and must be paired with the Guardian Monitor to remit information back to your power supplier.

Enroll in the Program

After the installation is complete, submit the application to RMP for participation. RMP will then verify ability to communicate and dispatch the battery.

Get Paid!

Once your system is operational and all eligibility requirements have been verified, RMP will mail a check for the upfront incentive. You’ll also receive ongoing bill credits as long as you are enrolled in the program. Combine that with the corresponding Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) to maximize your savings!

Program Benefits

Earn Upfront Incentives

Upfront incentives reduce the cost to you before or shortly after installation. Customers can qualify for $400/kWh (based on battery capacity available for discharge).

Earn Performance Incentives

Customers are also eligible for an ongoing annual bill credit of $15 per kW starting in year two of the program. The annual credit will be divided and applied equally to your monthly bill.

Take Advantage of the Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC)

You may also qualify for a Federal Tax Investment Credit (ITC). Consult with a tax advisor on eligibility requirements.

Contribute to a Cleaner Future

Unlike generators that run on fossil fuels, batteries are a cleaner, quieter option for powering your home during an outage.

How the Program Works Once Your System is Installed

System Monitoring

The battery storage system needs to be installed in a location with an internet service so Rocky Mountain Power can monitor your system. Use our Guardian Monitor & mobile app.

Battery Dispatch

The program aggregates all the participating batteries and provides an energy resource large enough to provide energy when it is needed most. Excess solar energy is used to charge the batteries during the middle of the day then that energy is used later in the evening or mornings. In addition, the batteries can be called upon when there is a larger system need to manage voltage to keep the grid stable for everyone.

Rocky Mountain Power will not discharge customer batteries below 10%.

Incentives

Participating customers receive an incentive shortly after installation to reduce the battery’s cost. The incentive is based on the system installed and amount of energy shared. Customers also earn an ongoing annual bill credit starting in year two of the program.

Residential battery incentives are based on $400/kW with a cap of $3,000 per battery and a limit of two batteries per household.
