HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Reserve
Select a Duke and Fortress Power approved Installer and enroll in the EnergyWise Home/Power Manager program Your installer will submit and interconnection request.
Install
Duke has a random selection process for the first phase of the PowerPair Program. If you are selected, Duke will send a confirmation of acceptance and you can move forward with your installation.
Get Paid
Once your system is operational and all eligibility requirements have been verified, Duke will send you an upfront payment and then give you a bill credit (credit only available for …

Duke won’t call on your battery when extreme weather like hurricanes threaten a power outage
Participation incentive of $4.60/kW monthly bill credits credits. That’s a $52 credit each month with a Fortress Power 11.4 kW Avalon system.
HOW IT WORKS
- Duke Energy Progress and Duke Energy Carolina each have a PowerPair Program. Customers will be enrolled in the EnergyWise program and Duke Energy Carolina will be enrolled in the Power Manager program. Applicants will be enrolled in the applicable utility program based on their address.
- Select Battery Data Only or Battery Control participation options while enrolling.
- Your system is operational when billing under an eligible rider and rate schedule has commence
- When the grid is stressed, Duke will dispatch part of your batter instead of dirty, expensive peaker plants. This helps keep your air clean and bills low.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Up to 36 discharge events per year with a minimum of 30 events
- December – March: Up to 18 events
- May – September: Up to 9 events
- April, October and November: Up to 9 events
Events will range from 1 to 3 hours in duration.
Events will be called 24 hours in advance.
Customers may opt out of up to 4 events per year
ELIGIBILITY
Home and business owners are eligible for PowerPair in North Carolina if they:
- Complete an interconnection application with Duke Energy Progress or Duke Energy Carolinas
- Commit to letting Duke monitor their battery for at least one year, but nominally 10 years
- Charge their battery from an onsite solar system
- Have a reliable Internet connection
- Own the following hardware:
Fortress Power Avalon or Envy Inverters
Fortress Power Avalon, eFlex 5.4, eVault Max Batteries
Fortress Power Avalon SEP
*Guardian required for eVault Max or eFlex battery systems
